Amer Khan, former national booter and the manager of the Bangladesh national football team is very much optimistic about the team’s doing well in the SAFF Championship to begin from today in Bangalore, India.
Amer Khan, who now in Bangalore with the team, after the managers’ meeting on Tuesday talked to the Bangladesh Post over telephone when he expressed his high hope to do well in the tournament.
Amer Khan said that players would have their vision to make a good result, if they only eying to play semi-final is not good thinking and they should have a vision to go far and will have to give their 100 percent to reach there.
“When you will take part in any tournament, you should have a dream to avail something big, if you have no vision, it would be tough to earn feat or to reach to the goal. I just told the boys to keep their eye on the trophy then to give their hundred percent, to fight heart and soul for the country,” said Amer.
“I believe, if the boys will give their hundred percent we will be able to obtain good result. I told the boys to fight, ranking is no matter, there is nothing to be demoralized thinking about the ranking. You will have to play to win match.”
Amer replying to a query, said, “I don’t believe in to ‘go match by match’, I believe I should have a vision and have to set target to go on top, otherwise success will not come. Ther is nothing to be demoralized, we are here to win trophy not for a picnic, so the mentality should be strong.”
“You know, we won matches in Cambodia but we had to play against the team backed by 35,000 crowds, earlier of the game we were under huge pressure but the boys did not get nervous and finally left the ground with winning the match. Cambpodia have been taking preparation for two months for this match, were in do or die stance to win the match.”
Amer Khan also was talking about the home side – “There is a plus point for us, as India is not in our group. Though I don’t think India is out of reach but we always get nervous when playing against them. You can remember the match of 2022 World Cup qualifying round match, at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, we just narrowly missed the win when India came to draw two minutes before the final whistle.”
“However, as I think we have nothing to lose, so we will have to play all out game to win, we should have the strength that we have ability,” said Amer Khan, how he has been trying to motivate the boys. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will begin their campaign with taking on the Lebanon tomorrow.
