Md Dawood Hossain, Chairman of Lahuria Union Parishad in Narail has been accused of embezzling money from the Local Government Support Project (LGSP). There are allegations that he has embezzled several lakhs of taka by showing fake projects in the financial years 2019-20 and 2020-2021.
According to the sources, from the LGSP project in the 2019-2020 financial year the road from Chaymanarchar main road of Lahuria Union to the community clinic will be constructed at a cost of Tk 2 lakh 50 thousand, taka 1 lakh for planting trees on both sides of the road from Kalyanpur-Singjora bridge to Naldi facing road, taka 2 lakh 25 thousand for installing 15 shallow tube wells in different villages of the union, taka 2 lakh for construction and renovation of road from Lahuria Krishnapad Master's house to government pond in the current 2020-2021 financial year.
Besides, construction of 2 lakh 2 thousand 902 taka for brick laying of south facing road from the side of Lahuria Molyapara Samchu Doctor's house, Dinanathpara Main Road to Mizanur Fakir's house was allotted Tk 56,273 for brick soling and Udren construction and Tk 2 lakh was allotted for the south-facing road brick soling from the side of Panchashipara Jahangir Hossain's house, taka 2 lakh for installing 10 shallow tube wells in different villages of the union will also take place under the same project.
Several locals in the project area told this correspondent on condition of anonymity, no trees have been planted on both sides of the Naldimukhi road from the Kalyanpur-Singjora bridge.Although LGSP has allocated money for the construction and repair of the road from the house of Lahuria Krishnapad Master to the government pond, there are allegations that the road has been constructed and renovated with the money of different project. Besides, most of the projects have not been implemented properly. However, the concerned UP chairman has raised the bill by showing that the money allocated in favor of the project has been spent.
Sources said that Lohagara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Roslina Parveen recently visited the spot and saw that the work from the south of the union's Sharshuna Imrul's house to Akbar's house was not implemented properly due to corruption in the 40-day programme.
In this regard, Lahuria UP Chairman Md Dawood Hossain said, "I am not involved in any kind of corruption or misconduct. The money allocated for the LGSP project in the fiscal years 2019-20 and 2020-2021 has been spent properly and appropriately. My opponents in the area are spreading conspiratorial propaganda and lies to humiliate me and degrade my social dignity.
