The underground museum of Swadhinata Stambha complex at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan previously known as Ramna Race Course Maidan in the capital is one of the symbols of the history of the great Liberation War. Every structure is the witness of the historic speech of March 7, 1971.

The Swadhinata Stambha or Independence Monument reminds us the historic 7 March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Making the memorial a symbol of our national aspiration was the main motto of the authorities concerned.

The monument includes an underground museum, terracotta murals on heroes and events of the Liberation War, a 2000-seat auditorium, an open air theatre, a water body and so on.

A waterfall with red-coloured light resembled the blood of the martyrs of the Liberation War on Sunday (March 7). Yesterday the whole nation observed the 50 years of the historic 7 March Speech by the great leader Bangabandhu.

The speech was the inspiration of the Liberation War. At least one million people gathered at the Ramna Race Course ground to get the declaration of Independence.

In his speech to the nation, Bangabandhu said, “This time the struggle is for our freedom. This time the struggle is for our independence.”

The speech inspired the Bengali people to prepare for a war of independence. The speech is on the Memory of the World Register of UNESCO, a list of world's important documentary heritage.
