The government is set to vaccinate (Covid-19) all eligible adult population to safeguard people’s lives and keep economic activates afloat.
Officials are optimistic that there will be no shortage of vaccines in the country while soon the country will go for vaccine production to meet the challenge of soaring demand of vaccine shots.
The government is preparing to start mass vaccination activities at the lowest tier of all city and village areas to ensure vaccination for people who are at least 18 years. The government will use the expanded immunization program (EPI) and the huge network of community health centers of the country to make the vaccination program a success.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, “We have made arrangements to vaccinate the elderly at the union level of the country from August 7. The vaccine will be given from about 14,000 community clinics (CC) to be used as vaccine centres across the country. Hopefully, about one crore vaccines will be given this time. We will continue this activity in the future subject to getting more jabs.”
According to the health minister, the country is in the process of bringing 21 crore doses of vaccine. These vaccines will be brought in phases and vaccination activities will be conducted.
According to government data, the country will have another 50 lakh dose of vaccines this month. Till now the country has Moderna and Pfizer vaccine. The country is yet to get 20 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines. Besides more Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines is expected to arrive in the country.
Besides, the country has also signed agreement to get 1 crore jabs from Russia. Another agreement was signed with Johnson and Johnson to get 7 crores of jabs by next year.
There have been concerns about vaccinations for so many days. Although most countries in the world have not started vaccinating their population, Bangladesh started it in the first week of last February.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader recently said, “Collecting vaccines with the highest priority for the country is a clear reflection of the deep and obedient commitment of Sheikh Hasina government to the people of the country.”
“Bangladesh will succeed in collecting the required number of vaccines under the Prime Minister's diplomatic skills and visionary leadership,” he added.
According to official data, 1,34,71,127 people have registered for vaccination in Bangladesh till July 28. Of these, 82,70,422 people have taken the first dose so far. 43,22,327 people got the second dose.
