All-out lockdown going on in Khulna

A week-long lockdown has started in Khulna due to the rapid increase in corona virus infection rate. 

Public transport, markets, shops, shopping malls, weekly markets and private offices in the district are closed from 6 am on Tuesday.

However, shops for daily necessities and raw materials are open from 8 am to 2 pm and drug stores are open all the time. 

The bank is kept open from 10 am to 2 pm.

Meanwhile, 11 more people have died in three separate hospitals in Khulna till Tuesday. Of these, seven died at Khulna Corona Hospital, three at the private Gazi Medical College Hospital and one at the Corona Unit of the General Hospital.

Khulna Corona Hospital focal person Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar on Tuesday said 7 patients had died of Corona while undergoing treatment at the hospital in the last 24 hours. 

149 patients were admitted in the 130-bed Corona Hospital till Tuesday 8 am. In the last 24 hours, 22 new patients have been admitted while 34 people returned home healthy, he added.

Khulna Medical College (KMC) Vice-Principal Dr Mehdi Newaz said that on Monday night, 177 out of 376 samples, tested positive for corona infection at the PCR machine in KMC. 

Out of 326 samples collected from within Khulna 80 came out positive.

Khulna General Hospital Corona unit spokesman Dr Kazi Abu Rashed said 32 people are currently admitted in the hospital. Of these, 19 are men and 13 are women.

On the other hand, Gazi Mizanur Rahman, owner of the private Gazi Medical College Hospital, said that there are 75 patients admitted in the hospital. 

In addition, 13 people tested positive for corona in the RT PCR machine of the hospital.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Niaz Mohammad said the corona detection rate in Khulna on Tuesday was 50 percent.
