Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that all the heroic freedom fighters (FFs) of the country will get smart national identity (NID) card emblazoned with ‘Bir Muktijoddha’.

He made the remark while responding to a question from reporters on Sunday at a programme organised on the occasion of issuing smart national identity card emblazoned with ‘Bir Muktijoddha’, launching the Bangla version of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972 and the unveiling of Redrawal of Constituencies Bill 2021 at a hotel in the capital.

On the occasion, more than 50 heroic freedom fighters were given smart national identity cards emblazoned with ‘Bir Muktijoddha’.

Notable among them are- Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram, Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi Bir Pratik, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury and Shabdsainik Shahin Samad and others.

CEC KM Nurul Huda also received a smart card as a heroic freedom fighter on the occasion.

The CEC said that this smart national identity card will be delivered to the address of the FFs.

Highlighting the complexity of adding and subtracting something new to an existing database, he said that adding a new letter or word to the way we create our database is a bit complicated.

“Our IT professionals have done this with a lot of hard work. Adding the word ‘heroic freedom fighter’ has been a bit complicated for the first time. However, now there are no complications. We will be able to provide this card to all freedom fighters,” he mentioned.

Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram said, “Today's event is a matter of pride for us. But it should not be limited here. Today, the way we got the smart national identity card with respect, if all the freedom fighters of the country get the smart card emblazoned with 'Bir Muktijoddha' through this program, that will be the success of this program.”
