The government has appointed Professor Ali Riaz as the new head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, replacing Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on Wednesday, following instructions from the chief adviser of the interim government.

The notification did not specify the reason for this replacement.

Earlier, on September 11, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six commissions to initiate reforms across various sectors, including the judiciary, election system, administration, police, Anti-Corruption Commission, and the constitution.

Initially, Shahdeen Malik, a prominent Supreme Court lawyer, was appointed to head the Constitutional Reform Commission.

However, this decision was revised, and the latest circular officially names Professor Ali Riaz as the new head.

Ali Riaz, a Bangladeshi-American scholar, is a distinguished professor of political science at Illinois State University in the United States. His extensive background and international experience in political science make him a noteworthy candidate for this vital role.
