I cannot put into words how close Alauddin Ali was to me. He was not only a legendary composer and music director, but also a talented lyricist. I can’t accept his departure at all. His death in this way was a great loss not only to our country, but also to the music scene of the Indian subcontinent. My film song debut was through his hands.

After my song ‘Putul’ became popular in 1982, he called me one day for a film song. He gave me the opportunity to sing a duet with Pakistani singer Alamgir in the film ‘Inspector’. Although he was supposed to sing one song in that movie, he sang all the songs one by one with me.

From then on I became fixed to him. At one time the song composed by Alauddin Ali was voiced be me. In this way I sang 350 songs in movies. The contribution of Alauddin Ali behind my career is not to be forgotten. A few days ago, Ali Bhai sent a piece of music to me to make a new song after he returned from treatment abroad.

The song composed and sung by Ali Bhai remained with me. The opportunity to sing the song is no more. He was very fond of his daughter. A few days ago I also went to her house on her birthday. There I took a picture with him. Who knew this picture would be my last picture with him.

His death is breaking me apart. His innumerable works and memories are frozen.

Ali Bhai used to call me sometimes for no reason. He also had a monopoly on Kolkata industry. He was revered by Mumbai’s renowned music directors. I have been to Kolkata many times with Ali Bhai for work.

It is not possible for anyone to explain what Alauddin Ali has created.

He will live through his creation for the rest of his life. Bangladesh’s music hall is running out of guardians. Stay well Ali Bhai. See you again, brother.
