Algerian chamber keen to work with FBCCI for trade expansion

Algerian Ambassador to Dhaka Rabah Larbi expressed his interest in signing a memorandum of understanding between Bangladesh and Algeria to increase trade with Bangladesh. 

The envoy has shown interest while exchanging views with FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin as he paid a courtesy call at FBCCI, Matijheel in the capital on Wednesday.

Mentioning that Algeria has a huge potential market for manmade filaments, glass and ceramics, leather goods, and electronics, he said a Memorandum of Understanding between the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the FBCCI could be mutually beneficial.

Responding positively to the proposal of the Algerian ambassador, FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin said that trade associations of more than 50 countries of the world have signed about 150 MoUs with FBCCI.

He said an agreement with the Algerian Trade Organization would increase trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. 

The FBCCI president promised to send the draft agreement to the Algerian embassy in Dhaka soon.

At present it imports jute and jute products, oven and knitwear, home textiles and footwear from Bangladesh. Apart from this it imports huge quantity of consumer goods, Cereals, dairy products, plastics, medicines every year from world market.

Also present on the occasion were Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Senior Vice President, Amin Helaly, Vice President and Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque, Secretary General of FBCCI.
