There is a huge number of diabetic patients in the country. Some are well aware of the fact that they have this disease and try to maintain their diet and health and also try to keep their blood sugar level under the margin. However, a staggering scene which is widespread in the country is that many diabetic patients don’t even know that they have the disease. There are a number of reasons behind this. The most prominent one being the lack of routine checkups conducted in the country. Most of the time, people visit the physician only when they have any problem but at other times if they are fit and fine they don’t care to go for routine or yearly checkups. As a result, many such diseases like diabetes, fatty liver and cholesterol levels go unchecked.

 patients is very high for

 a country this size

Moreover, out of every 10 persons at least one develops diabetes in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, around the world the number of diabetic patients has exceeded 8 million while the estimated number of diabetic patients in Bangladesh is about 90 lakh while one lakh new patients getting added to the list every year. The number of diabetic patients is very high for a country this size. This number must be brought down with a healthy diet. Moreover, this lifetime lasting disease must be kept under control because of its adverse effects over longtime.

If effective measures are not taken to make people aware of diabetes right now then the number of patients will considerably rise. As there is a genetic possibility of diabetes being hereditary, awareness about diabetes is to be created more among the people who are living in the lower income level. Many people are suffering from this disease due to lack of timely awareness.
