Awami League (AL) leaders on Friday warned Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of dire consequences if the party tries to create chaos in the name of movement.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal came up with these statements while addressing two separate programmes in the city.

After a meeting with the delegation members of Puja Udjapon Parishad at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in the city Obaidul Quader said BNP’s October 28 political programme will be facing the same debacle situation like in the December 10 last year.

“BNP leaders start lying blatantly after waking up in the morning every day. They have lost their morality to speak the truth. No good sense has prevailed upon them yet,” he said.

It is good to note that BNP leaders continued sharply criticising the government, threatening publicly to “overthrow” the government.

Besides, they also had said that ‘after December 10 last year), the country would be run by BNP convicted Chairperson Khaleda Zia and convicted acting Chairman Tarique Rahman now absconding in London”.

Referring to this statement Obaidul Quader said BNP does not have any capacity or strength to do so as October 28 would mark the beginning of the party’s downfall instead of the government.

“BNP destroyed the non-party caretaker government system. No country in the world talks about the caretaker government but BNP is shamelessly talking about the dead issue. There is no caretaker government system in the world. The apex court of the country scrapped this system forever,” AL General Secretary said.

He added caretaker government made biased behavior in 2001 and 2006.

“Therefore, people do not want to bring a dead issue like caretaker government to life,” Obaidul Quader said, adding the caretaker government is an issue settled by the country’s apex court.

He said like other democratic countries, elections will be held following the Constitution.

“Hence, the unconstitutional government like caretaker government will never come again in the country,” he added.

It is known to all that BNP-Jamaat’s undemocratic and violence activities had invited a change-over came on 11th January 2007, popularly known as 1/11.

Later an army back caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, the former governor of Bangladesh Bank, took over the state power.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday asked the government to decide by October 28 whether it will take a safe exit by quitting power or will get ousted by people.

He also said they would start an unstoppable journey of their final movement on October 28 by holding a grand rally in the capital.

After exchanging greetings with Hindu community leaders and distinguished personalities on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja at Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital Dhaka, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Friday said if anyone tries to spread rumors on Puja celebrations, will not be spared.

“We are urging all to remain alert against spreading rumors centering the upcoming Durga Puja. All necessary measures have been taken to prevent rumors,” Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said.

As part of intensified security measures on the Durga Puja festival, he said closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) have been installed and the members of RAB, police, Ansar, volunteers and mobile courts are now in Puja mandops across the country.

The Puja is being celebrated at 32,168 Puja mandops across the country. The number of mandops increased by 1000 compared to the number in last year.

The home minister said the culprits will be destined to face tough punitive actions.

“The rumour mongers would definitely be exposed to stern punitive actions under quickened trial,” he added.
