AL wants no limit cross by foreign observers

Ruling Bangladesh Awami League on Thursday advised the Election Commission to remain aware of so that no foreign diplomat and observer could show leadership during the elections to the two city corporations in capital.

The Awami League also advised the EC to remain alert so that anybody could not cross their limit of access.

The Awami League made the advisories to the EC authorities during a further meeting between the EC officials and Awami League leaders at the EC Headquarters at the capital’s Agargaon. HT Imam, a presidium member of the Awami League, led the AL representative team. He was accompanied, among others, by AL’s another presidium member Jahangir Habir Nanak, joint secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, publicity secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap.

At the end of the meeting, HT Imam told journalists that they talked to the EC officials regarding the activities by the foreign observers.

“We have urged the EC officials so that foreign observers obey the rules properly”, said HT Imam and continued as saying, “Any observer should not apply their own country’s rules in this country as Bangladesh is an independent country.”

HT Imam said that they (AL) also want that the elections will be held peacefully. He also claimed that there everything is under the control of the EC.

Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder and Kabita Khanam, among others, were also preset at the meeting. 

The elections to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will be held on February 1.
