The ruling Awami League (AL) has already started taking all kinds of preparations for the next general election. Party General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said this while inspecting the Rajshahi city’s historic Madrasha ground from where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed a huge public meeting organised by Rajshahi city and district units of AL on Sunday.

Sheikh Hasina also inaugurated seven development projects during her daylong visit to Rajshahi on the same day. The party high command also asked her party leaders and workers to make the party stronger at the grassroots as the national election is approaching.

all-out preparations to

 hold the country’s next

general election in a free and fair manner

The government is taking all-out preparations to hold the country’s next general election in a free and fair manner. We think AL gained confidence and trust of the people staying in power, which usually does not happen in our country.

The last general election is the evidence of AL’s popularity as the people voted for the party in large numbers. As part of its organisational activities from the grassroots to central ahead of the next general election, the party has also declared general mercy for its over 100 leaders and workers who were found involved with violating the organisational discipline including becoming rebel candidates in different local government polls. This general mercy will encourage the leaders and activists to work in unison in order to gain the people’s confidence and trust.

As the election is approaching, the leaders and workers are now paying full attention to make the AL more strong. The party leaders and workers are also focusing on organisational issues and election preparation. But, attacks and conspiracies are still going on against the government to grab power through undemocratic and unconstitutional way. Taking the issue seriously, AL should hold programmes throughout the year, while all party men would remain alert at district, upazila and grassroots levels. Apart from the government, we all must remain vigilant as the anti-liberation forces should never go to state power again.
