The ruling Awami League is scheduled to bring out peace procession today (Tuesday) in capital the Dhaka in a bid to check possible violence during the road march programme announced by opposition BNP.
The Dhaka City South Unit of Awami League is set to bring out a peace and development procession starting from Engineers’ Institute, Bangladesh (IEB) at 3:30pm.
Meanwhile, the BNP earlier announced to arrange two separate road march programmes on July 18 and July 19. Today’s road march programme will start from Gabtoli and end at BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan in the capital. The road march programme on July 19 will start from Uttara and end at the same Nayapaltan.
Meanwhile, Awami League leaders said that their procession will be brought out from the premises of IEB and end at BangabandhuBhaban in Dhanmondi-Road 32 (old) after marching through Shahbagh intersection, Elephant Road and City College.
Before the procession, a brief rally will be held in front of the IEB.
AL General Secretary ObaidulQuader, also Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, will address the rally as the chief guest while Dhaka City South AL President Abu Ahmed Mannafi will chair it.
Sources in the Awami League said they will continue holding programmes like peace rallies and processions so that parties like BNP or Jamaat could not create anarchy.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) gave verbal permission to BNP to hold its programme on specific conditions.
The DMP advised BNP not to use loudspeakers causing sufferings to people.
Besides, the DMP and other law-enforcement agencies have taken additional security measures so that any untoward incidents do not takes place centring the programmes of the country’s two major political parties.
