Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said his party will begin its primary member collection campaign at district and upazila levels on July 1. “During the primary member collection, Awami League will give priority to the new members’ political identity rather than family background,” he told a press conference at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital, reports BSS.
AL Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain, Central Working Committee members Anwar Hossain and Marufa Akhter Popi were present on the occasion.
Quader said all preparations are being taken to hold the party’s national council in time. The AL general secretary said as per the party’s constitution, there is no alternative to holding the party’s council within the fixed time, so there is no scope to defer it. About the Barguna murder, the minister said three of the accused have already been arrested and drives are going on to arrest others. “None will be shown mercy over the brutal murder. Steps have been taken so that none of the accused can flee,” he said.
