The ruling Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies on Friday paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders on the occasion of Jail Killing Day commemorating the brutal killing of the leaders inside safe custody of Dhaka Central Jail in 1975.

On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait in the morning.

Later, Obaidul Quader along with party central leaders placed another wreath at the portrait on behalf of the AL.

Later, the AL general secretary along with party's senior leaders went to Banani graveyard and paid homage to national leaders by placing wreaths at their graves

 there at 8am.

At first, Quader on behalf of the premier laid wreath on the grave of Syed

Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain M Mansur Ali. Besides, Surah Fateha

and a special munajat were also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed

souls there.

Wreaths were also laid at the grave of AHM Qamaruzzaman in Rajshahi.

At Banani graveyard, AL Presidium members Col (retd) Faruk Khan, Shajahan

Khan, Advocate Qamrul Islam, Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and Jahangir Kabir

The day's programme of the AL began with hoisting national and party flags at

half-mast and hoisting black flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban and party's central

office at Bangabandhu Avenue and the party's all offices across the country

at the dawn.

On August 15, 1975 Bangabandhu along with most of his family members were

brutally assassinated and on November 3 same year, his close four associates

were killed brutally inside safe custody of Dhaka Central Jail.

November 3 is a stigmatized and sorrowful day in the nation's history as the

four national leaders -- Syed Nazurl Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain M Mansur

Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman -- who were close associates of Bangabandhu, were

brutally killed inside Dhaka central jail on that fateful night.
