AL parliamentary team to visit US May 14

The parliamentary body of the Awami League is going to visit the United States (US) on May 14, said official sources of the ruling party.

In this regard a four-member delegation led by AL’s presidium member Colonel (retd) Farooq Khan, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has been formed.  

Other members on the four-member delegation are -- former Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and two other ruling party lawmakers--Nahim Razzaq and Kazi Nabil Ahmed.  

Talking to Bangladesh Post, Colonel (retd) Farooq Khan confirmed about the USA visit by the AL’s Parliamentary body.

He said, “The delegation of the parliamentary body has been formed at the party’s Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday last. The meeting made the chief of the delegation.”

“We are scheduled to start for the USA on May 14 and may stay there for about one week”, he added.

Asked about the tour, Colonel (retd) Farooq Khan said, “During the USA tour, we will hold a meeting with the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee of the US government. Besides, several other meetings are also expected to be held there.” 

“Various issues, including mutual relations are also expected to be discussed during the visit”, he said.

Sources in the Awami League said that this parliamentary body of the ruling party would sit with several committees of different levels in the United States. They will discuss various issues including development of mutual relations.

They said the US visit by the AL’s Parliamentary body is important as the next 12th parliament elections are scheduled to be held at the end of next year.
