Jasim Ahmad, a local Awami League activist and betel leaf seller at Morichya Bazar in Ukhiya upazila, has been re-arrested by police.
On Saturday night, a team from Ukhiya Police Station detained him suddenly from his roadside shop.
According to police sources, the arrest was made in connection with a previously filed case, though specific details regarding the case were not disclosed.
Local sources report that Jasim was recently released on bail after serving time for a politically motivated case filed around forty days ago. He had been trying to rebuild his small business when he was arrested again, leaving his family devastated.
Jasim is the sole breadwinner for his family. Due to financial hardship, he has been unable to enrol his son, who recently passed the SSC exams, into college.
When asked, the Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station stated the arrest was made through legal procedures. However, locals are questioning why lower-level activists are repeatedly targeted while senior leaders remain untouched. The incident has stirred mixed reactions in the area.
