AL leader stabbed to death in Rajshahi

As a sequel of a row over the selling of mango at a low price, an Awami League leader of Tanore municipal area was stabbed to death at Gollapara Bazaar of Tanore upazila on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sujan Ali, President of ward-7 of Tanore municipal AL and son of Sajjad Ali under Raichan Akka village of Tanore Municipality. Police arrested three alleged killers in this connection.

According to sources, Sujan used to deal in fruit at Gollapara bazaar. He had been selling mango at his shop at Taka 40 per kilogramme. Beside him, Alamgir and his two sons Raihan and Rakib were also selling mango at Taka 50 per kilogramme which enraged Sujan and he requested them to sell the same variety of mango not at Taka 40 rather at Taka 50 per kilogramme. But, defying the request, Sujan continued to sell the mango at Taka 40 per kilogramme which further enraged Alamgir and his sons as they locked in an altercation over the issue.

During the altercation, Alamgir and his sons beat Sujan and at a stage stabbed him on the chest with a sharp weapon injuring him fatally. Local people rushed to the spot and took them to local hospital where the attending    doctors declared him dead.

Khairul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Tanore police station informed, three of the accused were arrested in this connection. Dead body of Shujan has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
