AL high-ups on field trips to fix intra-party fewd

Infiltration of intruders, intra-party feuds and conflicts among the grass-roots level leaders and activists of Awami League and of its different associate bodies have appeared to be major problems for the ruling party across the country. 

Sources said, the party is now suffering from organisational indiscipline due to these problems.

According to sources, as the party has been in the power for a longtime, no such priority was given to its organisational purpose. 

Meanwhile, intruders and beneficiaries have infiltrated into the party. As a result, honest and dedicated leaders and activists of the party are being deprived due to negligence by some dishonest leaders of the party. In the circumstances, many groups have cropped up inside the party causing intra-party feuds and conflicts among the grass-root leaders across the country.

The party sources also said due to intra-party feuds and conflicts, a large number of leaders are being appeared as the rebel candidates in different elections. The sources said, unless these feuds are not resolved immediately, the party might face severe organisational crisis in the near future.

In this circumstance, central leaders of the party have started field visits in view to resolve the intra-party feuds and conflicts among the grass-root level leaders and activists as well as to identify the intruders into the party.

Several senior leaders of the party said they already have resolved intra-party conflicts among the leaders of Chattogram South unit of Awami League and Chakoria Upazila unit of the party. The leaders of both the two organisational districts have pledged to work together with each other forgetting their misunderstanding.

Party sources also said that they also held a meeting with the leaders of Cumilla South and Cumilla North units of leaders on last Monday while another was held with the leaders of Habiganj district unit leaders of Awami League and other associate bodies.

According to AL’s official sources, the central leaders on Tuesday held two other meetings with the leaders of Noakhali and Feni district units of the party while on Wednesday two separate other meetings were held with the leaders of Chandpur district and Laxmipur district units of Awami League.

As per the party sources, the central leaders are scheduled to hold two meetings on June 19 and June 20 with the leaders of Chattogram Metropolitan Unit of Awami League and Fatikchhari Upazila unit leaders. 

Awami League’s Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Organising Secretary Abu Sayeed Al-Mahmud Swapan are expectedly leading the central leaders.

They will also hold a meeting on June 24 with the leaders of Cumilla North Unit and another meeting with the leaders of Cumilla South unit of the party on June 26.

Earlier on June 15 (Tuesday) a meeting was held with the leaders of five upazilas in Pabna district. The meeting was held at the Dhanmondi Office of the party president.

Talking about the issue, AL’s Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, as per the directives of the party chief Sheikh Hasina, also the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the central leaders have initiated the field tours with a view to resolving intra-party feuds among the leaders of the party’s grass-root levels.

“The target of these filed tours is not only to resolve feuds and conflicts, but also to reorganize and reconstruct the party’s grass-root level. Our target is to strengthen

the party by solving these issues”, he said. 

Faruq Khan, a Presidium Member of Awami League, said, since the party is in the power for a longtime, its organisational activities have become deemed down. Besides, intra-party feuds have appeared to be a problem for the party. 

“In view to resolve the crisis, all the central leaders have been divided into eight groups for eight divisions of the country and they have been assigned to address all the matters”, he said.
