Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said all the country’s achievements were attained under the AL’s leadership.

“The roots of the Awami League are very deep in the soil of this country. Both the geographical independence and economic emancipation of the country were attained under the AL's leadership,” he told a regular press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence in the capital.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the AL is related to the existence of Bangladesh, while this relationship is eternal and none can break it.

Noting that many conspiracies were carried out against the AL in the past, he said those, who had intrigued to destroy the AL, were wiped out.

The AL general secretary said the country’s people have made them stand on the docks of history.  The AL is a political party that has been turned into a legendary one through movements, struggles, sacrifice and the love of people, he said.

Saying that the AL is moving forward at an indomitable pace under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Quader claimed that those think that the AL is detached from people themselves are now isolated from the people and condemned by them.

“Their politics falls in a crisis of existence today,” he added.

Mentioning that the BNP’s politics is not for the welfare of people, he said there is no instance of sacrifice in BNP’s politics as it believes in consumerism.

The AL general secretary said the BNP is continuously making falsehood against the government without standing by the people even during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Replying to the statement of BNP leaders that AL will disappear one day, he said: “This is a kind of delusion in the BNP leaders. This notion is just cheap food for the self-satisfaction of the leaders of the most failed opposition party in the country’s history”.

As per the instruction and plan of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Quader said, a housing programme for the homeless people is being implemented on the occasion of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

As part of building a prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt by the Father of the Nation, the premier has taken the time-befitting programme to improve the living standard of the economically backward people of society, he said.

He said the government has already handed over houses to about 1,20,000 people as PM’s gifts to ensure homes for all in establishing the fundamental rights of citizens.

Construction faults were reported in only 24 places, which is 0.25 percent of the total project, the AL general secretary said, adding the faulty structures of the houses will be repaired with the government expenses and will be rebuilt if necessary.

He asserted that action would be taken against those responsible for the faults in house construction or involved in negligence and irregularities to this end.

The road transport minister said as per the directives of the prime minister, a probe body has already been formed in this regard and punitive actions are being taken against those responsible.

Quader said the government’s initiative to provide houses to the homeless people is being lauded at home and abroad but a vested quarter is conducting propaganda against it in a planned way.

He urged all to remain alert against the propaganda so that they cannot mislead the people.
