The Awami League will continue to remain vigilant on streets as the party has decided not to let any forces like BNP and Jamaat to resort to violence.
The party has instructed all its leaders, activists and supporters to remain alert so that those parties may not create anarchy, carry out arson terrorism, sabotage and other anti-state activities in the name of movement as they did in the past.
Leaders of the ruling party on Thursday reiterated its decision of staying alert on the streets as it was done on January 11 so that BNP and its like-minded parties cannot commit any crime, kill people and damage public property during its programmes scheduled to be held on January 16.
They said that they already have instructed all of its leaders, activists and supporters to remain vigilant from the central to grass roots levels so that none can get any chance to destabilize the situation in the country and fish in the troubled waters.
The Awami League and all its affiliated bodies and associate organisations on Tuesday held several rallies at a time in the capital city of Dhaka and elsewhere in the country when the BNP and its like-minded parties held their programmes demanding the resignation of government and form a caretaker government.
In the name of movement, the BNP, Jamaat and their allies earlier indulged in various subversive activities and sabotage. They killed hundreds of people through ‘fire terrorism’ in 2012. Hundreds of buses were torched when several thousand people, including passengers, were burnt alive.
Mentioning the past of the BNP-Jamaat’s anarchy, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the AL will remain cautious about BNP’s movement and stay on streets to protect people’s life and property.
“We will be cautious about BNP’s movement so they can’t create any anarchic situation and we won’t change our stance. We are on streets and won’t leave those as we’ll perform our duty to protect the life and property of people,” he said.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on the current issues.
Replying to a question about BNP’s leadership, Quader said, “Awami League will join the next election under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina but who is BNP’s leader? In the past election they took part in the election under the leadership of Kamal Hossain”.
Referring to Wednesday’s sit-in programme of BNP, the Awami League leader said there was no violence centering the programme, but BNP activists hurled brickbats at police in Faridpur.
If they hold rally then Awami Leauge will bring out peace procession, he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud also said, "We had remained alert on January 11 in Dhaka. We will remain alert on January 16 too. If they (BNP) want to carry out any violence, it will be resisted along with the common people. No one will be allowed to destroy the country's peace, stability, law and order.
