Awami League party candidate Sheikh Harunor Rashid has been re-elected as the chairman of Khulna Zilla Parishad. Harunor Rashid was elected with a margin of 133 votes in 10 constituencies, with his closest challenger being former District Chhatra League President SM Mortaza Rashidi.
Harunor Rashid got 536 votes on the motorcycle symbol and 403 votes by his nearest rival SM Mortaza Rashidi.
Polling started simultaneously at 9 am in 10 polling stations of Khulna district and polling was held till 2 pm. At the beginning of the day, the voter turnout was low, but the turnout increased around 12 noon. The chairmen of various unions are seen coming to the polling station together with their respective union members.
Chairman and members of 68 unions of 31 wards and 9 upazilas in Khulna metropolis voted. The total number of voters is 978.
Strict security measures are in place inside and outside each center. Voters exercise their vote without any restrictions.
Election Returning Officer and District Administrator Md. Moniruzzaman Talukder observed the overall situation of various polling stations.
It is known that the elected chairman Harunor Rashid has been the president of Khulna district Awami League for 13 years and the chairman of district council for 11 years.
