AL, BNP, JaPa contesting Pabna-4 by-polls

By-elections in Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atghoria) constituency is scheduled to be held on September 26. Apart from the ruling Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party (JaPa) have also decided to take part in the by-elections. 

The names of the expectant contestants for the polls have been announced. On Sunday afternoon, Nomination Board of ruling Awami League held a meeting and announced the name of AL candidate Nuruzzaman Biswas as the party candidate. 

A total of 28 persons collected nomination papers from the party seeking the nomination. Nominated candidate Nuruzzaman Biswas is a Freedom Fighter, Vice-President of Pabna district AL and Chairman of Ishwardi Upazila Parishad. 

On the other hand, after the meeting of the Nomination Boards on Monday night, Habibur Rahman Habib and Reazul Karim were nominated as contestants from BNP and the Jatiya Party respectively. 

Habibur Rahman Habibi is the Adviser to the BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Convener of Pabna district BNP. In addition to Habibur Rahman Habib, Central Shramik Dal leader, Convener of Ishurdi Upazila BNP (part) Ahsan Habib has also collected nomination form. 

Five-time elected MP, President of Pabna district AL and former Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif died at a hospital in Dhaka on April 2 leaving the seat vacant.   Though the election for the seat was supposed to be held within 90 days of vacancy of the seat, the holding of the election has been delayed for further 90-day due to Coronavirus pandemic. 

Mohammad Alamgir, Secretary of Election Commission announced the schedule of the election on August 23.

Mohammad Alamgir informed, the expected candidates to participate into the Bye-election of Pabna-4 would be allowed to submit their nomination papers to the local Returning Officer till September-2, the sorting of the nomination papers will be held on September-3 and the last date for withdrawal of the nomination is on September-8. The polling will be held without any break from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on September-26.
