American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has brought a proud moment for the country by becoming the first Asian university to be featured in the prestigious spotlight segment of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK).

This recognition comes as part of the ongoing Responsible Futures International (RFI) 2024/25 programme, which highlights universities actively promoting sustainability, climate justice, and ethical practices in higher education.

A major highlight of AIUB’s recognition was the outstanding contribution of its Social Welfare Club – Shomoy. Founded in 2009 under the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), Shomoy has consistently worked for underprivileged communities across Bangladesh.

Their flagship initiatives such as “Oder Eid, Amader Khushi”, a heartwarming Eid campaign for underprivileged children, annual winter clothing drives, and emergency relief work during floods and other disasters have earned special attention in the Spotlight feature. The club also runs various awareness campaigns on mental health, hygiene, and environmental issues. The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of AIUB has played an important role in facilitating the university’s participation in the RFI programme.

AIUB’s inclusion in this global platform not only enhances the university’s international reputation but also showcases the compassionate and socially responsible character it fosters in its students.

Educationists believe this achievement is a proud milestone for Bangladesh’s higher education sector, reflecting AIUB’s commitment to nurturing globally aware, responsible citizens ready to contribute to society.
