A full-scale security exercise titled 'Airport Security Exercise-2025' was held at the Syedpur Airport on Thursday.
According to the Annex-17 Standard of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), such an exercise is mandatory to be organized every two years. The exercise is organised usually to test the ability to deal with various risks including hijacking, bomb attacks and to increase the preparedness of the participants.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Army, RAB, Bangladesh Police, APBN, Ansar, Air Astra Limited, Syedpur 100-bed Hospital, Fire Service and Civil Defense and other various related organisations took part in the exercise.CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, attended the event as the chief guest and witnessed the excersize. Besides, CAAM member Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal was present as the chief coordinator of the event. A.K.M Bahauddin Zakaria of Syedpur Airport served as the commander of the event.
As the chief guest, CAAB chairman in his speech said, "Such exercises not only identify weaknesses, but also play an important role in ensuring international standard safety and service for passengers by establishing effective coordination between different organizations concerned."
He further mentioned that the success of the exercise is a shining example of collective efforts and responsibility. Through this, it will be possible to deal with any untoward incident quickly and effectively.Expressing his satisfaction by witnessing the preparedness and skills of the participants, he said that each organisation involved in the exercise has shown commendable performance.
The CAAB chairman also said, "The development activities of Syedpur Airport have already achieved a visible progress. About 70% of the runway overlay work has already been completed. The construction of the new apron/tarmac has just been completed. Besides, about 12,000 feet of perimeter road has been completed and the remaining about 3,000 feet of work is in progress."
He further mentioned that these development activities will ensure a more comfortable and quality travel experience for the esteemed passengers and at the same time will make the country's internal and international communication system more dynamic.
CAAB member Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan, CAAB officials from diferent levels, senior representatives from various participating organizations and media personalities were also present in the event.
