Indian director Shyam Benegal is going to make a biopic on the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is being said that Bangladeshi prominent actor Ahmed Rubel is supposed to play the role of Bangabandhu in the film.
With the film’s shooting starting soon, Ahmed Rubel’s name came up in the discussion as to who is going to play the role of Bangabandhu. This has been confirmed by a number of sources who are concerned with the film.
According to additional secretary Md Azharul Haque of the Information Ministry, “I also have heard the name of actor Ahmed Rubel in this regard. His name has been taken under consideration and much discussion has been done. But this has not yet been finalized.”
He added that it will be finalized by the film’s director.
Atul Tiwari, the screenplay writer of the biopic came to Dhaka last month, says additional secretary. He further added that the director and screenplay writer will come to Dhaka many more times. Only after that will anything be confirmed.”
On the other hand, Ahmed Rubel has confirmed that he has been in talks about the role. But the final decision is yet to be made, he added.
According to Ahmed Rubel, “I have talked about the role, but it was totally preliminary. It might be totally something else by the end.”
It is to be mentioned that Ahmed Rubel has played the role of martyr singer Altaf Mahmud in the film ‘Guerilla’ and has received much praise for his acting.
To celebrate the birth centenary of the father of the nation in 2020, Bangladesh-India is making the biopic in cooperation with each other.
The director has already confirmed that the length of the film is going to be 180 minutes or three hours. When the shooting of the film begins he will be able to complete the shooting of the whole film in just 80 days, says that director of the film.
According to him, the post production of the film is going to be done in Mumbai and it is going to be released in 2020. The biopic is going to be made in the Bengali language. Later on, subtitles of various languages will be added to it for screening in various countries of the world.
