Public university teachers and employees have been on strike since July 1, demanding the cancellation of the universal pension scheme 'Prottoy.' As a result, the admission test for nine universities in the agriculture cluster has been suspended. This decision was made at an emergency meeting of the central admission committee on Monday, chaired by ASM Lutful Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) and President of the Agriculture Cluster Central Admission Committee. Khalilur Rahman, Senior Deputy Director of Public Relations and Publication at CVASU, announced this in a press release.
The agriculture cluster has a total of 3,718 seats. Bangladesh Agricultural University has 1,116 seats, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University 435, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University 698, Patuakhali Science and Technology University 448, CVASU 270, Sylhet Agricultural University 431, Khulna Agricultural University 150, Habiganj Agricultural University 90, and Kurigram Agricultural University 80 seats.
The first-year undergraduate admission test for the academic year 2023-24 was scheduled for July 20. However, due to the ongoing strike and semi-annual examinations at agricultural universities, the test has been postponed. A new date will be announced later.
Lutful Ahsan told Prothom Alo that the strike and the timing of the semi-annual exams necessitated the postponement. This year's admission test will be 100 marks in the MCQ system, based on the HSC/equivalent exam syllabus 2023, covering English, Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
