Published : 20 Oct 2023 10:38 PM

A new date has been set for the inauguration of the Agargaon-Motijheel section of the Dhaka Metro Rail and the new date of inauguration has been fixed on  November 4.

Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division ABM Amin Ullah Nuri confirmed the information on Friday (October 20).

He said, “The inauguration date has been deferred due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s schedule related issues. There are no other reasons. The new opening date is scheduled for November 4.”

This marks the second postponement for the inauguration of the Agargaon-Motijheel section of Metro Rail.

Initially, the inauguration date was set for October 20, but it was later rescheduled to October 29 before being delayed once more to November 4.

There are seven stations on the Agargaon to Motijheel part of the metro rail--  Bijoy Swarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, TSC, Press Club and Motijheel. All work involving the stations were completed.

After the opening of the Agargaon-Motijheel section of Metro Rail, commuters will be able to travel from the  city’s Uttara to Motijheel in just 38 minutes.

It was known that five trains will run from Agargaon to Motijheel every 15 minutes and the number of trains will be increased gradually by reducing the time interval.

According to Metro Rail authorities, when the entire system is operational, services will be available from 7 am to 10 pm initially and then it will be extended to 11:30 pm.

The Uttara-Agargaon section of the metro rail, the country's first metro rail line, was opened in December last year. Since then, the demand for the opening of the Agargaon-Motijheel route has increased as the major catchment area runs through Mirpur to Motijheel.
