Afghans edge past Bangladesh

Bangladesh suffered a lone goal defeat to Afghanistan in their away match of the joint Qualification (Round-1) of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 held today at Republican Central National Stadium in Tajikistan capital of Dushanbe, report BSS.

In the day’s match, Afghan midfielder Farshad Noor made the difference, scoring the all important goal in the 27th minute with a brilliant header from close range utilizing on a free kick from Omid Popalzay securing all three points for his side.

Bangladesh have been put in the Group E along with Qatar, Oman, neighbouring India and Afghanistan. Bangladesh will play their home match against stronger Qatar on October 10, away match with India on October 15, away match against Oman on November 14 and home match with Afghanistan on March 26 next year, away match with Qatar on March 31 Qatar and home matches with India on June 4 and Oman on June 9.

Bangladesh (182) are the lowest ranked side in the group while Afghanistan are ranked 149th. Qatar are the highest-ranked side at 62nd followed by Oman (87) and India (103).
