India's biennial event Aero India, an aerospace exhibition, will be held from February 3-5 next year at its traditional venue of Bengaluru, the capital city of southern state Karnataka, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Friday.

The event would take place notwithstanding the prevailing Coronavirus pandemic, said the report quoting official sources.

Aero India is considered as one of the biggest exhibitions of its kind in Asia, ever since it began in 1996. Next year's would be the 13th edition of the event.

According to the report, the country's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has held a series of the meetings to take stock of the situation and preparedness in the run up to the event.

"It was decided that the event will be hosted while taking maximum precaution against the coronavirus pandemic," the PTI report quoted an official source as saying.

The mega event attracts all major aerospace manufacturers from around the globe, as India continues to be among the biggest arms importers across the globe and also looks at a major modernisation of its forces.

India's defence ministry plans to showcase its initiatives in promoting India's defence manufacturing at the event. The government has unveiled a number of policy initiatives in the last few months with an aim to boost domestic defence production.
