The Directorate General of Health Services, in a recent survey, found the presence of larvae of Aedes mosquito in 37.33 per cent houses and establishments in Rajshahi city.

In the survey, disseminated on Monday, the DGHS found larvae of Aedes mosquitoes in 28 out of 75 samples, said DGHS Rajshahi divisional office director Habibul Bashar Talukder.

He said that they had collected samples from 75 houses from 15 wards in Rajshahi city areas randomly and tested them in the laboratory.

Habibul Bashar said that they had already sent the report to the Rajshahi City Corporation authorities and asked them to conduct more comprehensive tests consulting with the city mayor.

He said that the dengue situation in Rajshahi was under control. ‘Yet, we have provided the city corporation with some advice so that mosquito larvae are not born in the city’, he added.

Salim Reza Ranju, RCC deputy chief cleaning officer, said that they received the health director’s letter and already strengthened the prevention of mosquito breeding, cleanliness and public awareness activities.

He said that they had also asked the imams of mosques to discuss dengue issue and distributed leaflets among the students and the teachers in primary and secondary schools.

The official said that cleaners and anti-mosquito workers of the city corporation were also conducting their activities at each of the 30 wards.

Meanwhile, the authorities at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital made Ward 30 of the hospital as a ‘dedicated’ unit for the dengue patients, said the hospital’s director brigadier general FM Shamim Ahmed.

He said that they had also formed a five-member medical team to treat the dengue patients.

The hospital director said that four new dengue patients were admitted to the hospital till Wednesday morning while fourteen dengue patients were undergoing treatment at the dedicated ward.
