Police arrested an Advocate for killing his wife at Doherpara village under Sadar upazila of Jashore district on Wednesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Amir Hossain, 45, son of Habib Munshi of the Upazila.
Sufiya's father Sirajul Islam alleged that, Amir Hossain killed her daughter for dowry. He demanding dowry for long time and tortured his daughter. Amir beat her daughter, she died on the spot on Monday.
On receiving the news, the police recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy. The next day, Sufiya's father Sirajul Islam filed a murder case against Amir Hossain.
The investigating officer of the case, then Inspector (Investigation) of Kotwali Police Station, Sheikh Tasnim Alam arrested Amir on Wednesday night from Doratana area of the town.
Meanwhile, Amir has been given notice from the District Lawyers Association to show cause after he killed his wife.
Abu Mortaza Chota, general secretary of the Jessore District Lawyers' Association, said that because of the notice of protest, he was asked to explain why his membership would not be canceled because of professional misconduct, reputation of the organization and involvement in anti-establishment work. A final decision will be taken after receiving the reply.
Jashore Kotwali Police Station OC Moniruzzaman said the body of Sufia Khatun was recovered from the house of Doherpara village of Kashimpur union of Jashore Sadar upazila and sent it to Jashore Medical Collage Hospital morgue for autopsy.
