The State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Arafat said that advertising policies will be formulated for online media.

He said this during a view exchange meeting with the officials of the Directorate of Films and Publications (DFP) in the conference room of DFP at the Information Building on Circuit House Road in the capital on Tuesday.

The state minister said that there should be a policy for determining the government advertisement rates for online newspapers and news portals. Necessary initiatives will be taken to formulate policies in this regard.

Director General of Film and Publication Directorate S. M. Golam Kibria, director general of the Directorate of Mass Communication Md. Nizamul Kabir, Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Film Censor Board Khaleda Begum along with various level officials of the FDFP were present at the meeting.

Stating that the freedom of media and expression has been improved during the current government, the state minister also said that the present government has the will to protect the freedom of media and freedom of expression.

“In examining the historical context of a nation where a military regime once held power, followed by a political party emerging from that regime and aligning with anti-liberation war elements, it is essential to assess the advancements in media freedom and freedom of expression.

A comprehensive analysis should be conducted to gauge the quantitative and qualitative progress made from that era, comparing and contrasting the current state with the past,” added the state minister.

He also said that through the DFP, the development activities of the government should be more effectively conveyed to the people of the country and the people of the world. Now technology has advanced a lot, people’s thinking has changed. Keeping these issues in mind, new issues should be added to the work of the department.

The state minister also said that initiatives will be taken to reform the Printing and Publication (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973 if necessary.

Earlier, the State Minister visited the exhibition and sales centre, museum and library of the Directorate of Films and Publications.
