At the end of the last year, a major reshuffle and promotion was held in the government administration. At least 6 additional secretaries have been promoted to secretaries on last December. Besides The government has extended contractual appointment for few secretaries in different important posts.
The Public Administration Ministry issued separate notifications in phases on last December.
The government has extended the appointment of Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, for the next two years.
On December 29, 2019, the government appointed Kaikaus as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. Kaikaus, who had served as senior secretary to the Power Division, replaced Nazibur Rahman.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam will continue his job till late 2022 as the government has extended his contractual appointment for the next the two years, with effect from December 16.
Former bridges division’s senior secretary Anwarul Islam got appointment as the cabinet secretary on October 13, 2019 and joined there on October 28.
The government has appointed Shyam Sunder Sikder, a former senior secretary of the government, as the chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notice recently, appointing Shyam Sunder Sikder for three years. The tenure of the previous chairman of BTRC, Md Jahurul Haque ended on December 4. Sikder retired as senior secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division in 2019.
The newly appointed BTRC chairman will enjoy the rank and status of a senior secretary along with the benefits of the same post.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Chairman Khaja Miah has been made information secretary.
The government has appointed Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain Hawlader as secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, who has been serving as the senior secretary of the ACC, went on Post Retirement Leave (PRL) on December 17.
In separate orders, the public administration ministry also announced the appointments of a new chairman to the Land Reform Board, a member to the Planning Commission and a divisional commissioner for Dhaka.
Dhaka's incumbent Divisional Commissioner Md Mustafizur Rahman has been made secretary to the land ministry, replacing Senior Secretary Md Maksudur Rahman Patwari, who went on retirement leave on Dec 30.
The public administration ministry's Additional Secretary Md Mokammel Hossian has been seconded to the civil aviation and tourism ministry. He will replace the ministry's Senior Secretary Md Mohibul Islam, whose contract will end on Jan 5.
Meanwhile, Md Selim Reza as secretary of Railway Ministry got a contract for one year. Earlier on December 24, the Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette appointing Mokabbir Hossain, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Additional Secy), as the secretary of Railways Ministry. Later, the ministry scrapped the gazette from its website.
Ramendra Nath Biswas, additional secretary to the Finance Division, has been transferred to the Planning Commission as a member. His position is equivalent to the post of a secretary.
Mostafa Kamal, additional secretary of the health ministry, has been made chairman (secretary) of Land Reform Board while Md Khalilur Rahman, director general of prime minister's office, was made Dhaka's new divisional commissioner.
Md Mustafizur Rahman has been appointed secretary of the Ministry of Land. Mr Rahman officially took over the responsibility from Senior Secretary Md Muksodur Rahman Patwary.
On the otherhand Ali Nur, retired secretary of Ministry of health and family welfare, will continue his role as the government has extended his contractual appointment for the next the one year, with effect from January 2021.
