Veteran Dhallywood actor and freedom fighter Masud Parvez, known as Sohel Rana, has formed a new political party named the "Bangladesh Justice Party." The announcement came after a meeting held on October 3 at a hotel in Dhaka. Sohel Rana, who chaired the meeting, revealed that the party’s symbol will be a dove, representing peace.
The full committee of the party, consisting of 51 members, is expected to be announced either by the end of this month or in early November. This move marks a significant step in the political career of the popular actor, who has been involved in politics since his student years.
Sohel Rana’s political journey began in his college days when he served as the president of the Chhatra League at Anandamohan College, Mymensingh. Later, he took on leadership roles in the Greater Mymensingh Chhatra League and the East Pakistan Chhatra League. After Bangladesh gained independence, he was elected Vice President of Iqbal Hall at Dhaka University.
In 2009, Sohel Rana joined the Jatiya Party and served as a presidium member. He also worked as an election advisor to the party’s chairman, former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
Apart from politics, Sohel Rana is celebrated for his contributions to Bangladesh's film industry. In 1971, he founded Parvez Films and produced the country's first film on the Liberation War, "Ora Egaro Jon." His acting career began with the film "Masud Rana" in 1973, based on the popular thriller series by Qazi Anwar Hussain.
Throughout his career, Sohel Rana has won the National Film Award three times and received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cinema.
