Sadek Bachchu, a popular actor of Dhaka cinema, is no more. He breathed his last at 12:05 pm on Monday (September 14) while undergoing treatment at the Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali.
Managing Director of Universal Medical College Hospital Ashish Kumar Chakraborty confirmed this information to Bangladesh Post. He said his heart had stopped several times since Monday morning. It was finally confirmed that Sadek Bachchu had died at 12:05 pm.
Sadek Bachchu recently contracted fever. He was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on September 6 after he developed shortness of breath. According to his family, the actor was infected with coronavirus last Saturday (September 12).
After that, Sadek Bachchu's condition deteriorated due to shortness of breath and he was taken to Universal Hospital from Dhaka Medical College on Saturday night. There, the actor was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital's Covid unit. His health did not improve there either. Since Sunday, his heart and lungs have been 75 percent useless. Her heartbeat has stopped several times since Monday morning. While on the ventilator, he finally breathed his last.
His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the cinema. His fans and admirers are mourning the loss of this great actor on social media as well.
He was buried at Khilgaon Taltola after the Asr Prayers.
Mentionable, Sadek Bachchu's real name is Mahbub Ahmed Sadek. Although Chandpur is his home town, he was born in Dhaka. The legendary man of the movie ‘Ehtesham’ changed his name to Sadek Bachchu in the movie 'Chandni'. He has been known by this name ever since.
Sadek Bachchu completed his graduation from T&T Night College. In his career he has served as an officer in the Postal Department.
He started acting in 1963 through radio. At the same time, he also walked on the stage. His first theatre work was with ‘Gananatya Parishad.’ In the post-liberation war period of 1972-73, when the cultural circle of the country was being formed anew, he joined a group theater. After a long journey, he made his debut in the television drama in 1974.
The first drama was ‘Prothom Ongikar’ directed by Abullah Yusuf Imam.
The first film was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 'Ramer Sumoti’ and he acted as the protagonist. Shahidul Amin was the director. He also starred opposite Sunetra in another film but the film was not released. He made his villainous acting debut in the film ‘Shukher Shondhane’. Ilias Kanchan was the hero in this film of Shahidul Haque Khan.
In 2018, Sadek Bachchu won the only National Film Award of his career.
