The activities of both the militant Islamic organisations and the outlawed leftist orgnisations is allegedly increasing in Rajshahi.

The leaders and activists of these organisations are now trying to reorganise themselves targeting the higher-educational institutions and the remote char villages of Rajshahi. They are also learnt to continue their organisational activities in various students dormitories(messes) of the city.

According to sources, the activities of outlawed militant leftist organisations including the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) is also learnt to increase in various rural areas of several upazilas of the district. After the crackdown against the terrorist activities of PBCP headed by Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai and Sheikh Abdur Rahman, the supreme commanders of the Islamic Militant organisations JMB (Jamayatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, an Al-Qaeda linked organisation), and the Jagrata Muslim Janata(JMJ), the terrorist activities like mugging and murders by PBCP operators had completely stopped in Bagmara, Durgapur upazilas and parts of Char villages of Bagha upazila.

Most of the PBCP leaders and activists had then managed to escape from the areas or were arrrested and many of them were killed but, it is learnt, now a days, with the lagging of proper vigilance of law enforcement agency members, the activists of outlawed leftist organisation are once again trying to reorganise themselves in the areas mentioned above.

At the same time, according to sources, the activities of the outlawed Islamic militant organisations are also increasing in Rajshahi in recent times.

It is learnt, in September 2008, RMP police arrested 1o leaders and activists of Hijbut Tahrir from Sonadighi crossing of the city during their preparation to hold a press conference. The arrested HT leaders include  Syed Golam Maula, Professor of the department of Management of Dhaka University and another teacher of a private university. Home Ministry banned the Hijbut Tahrir in October-2009 on the allegation of its link with militant activities. But, despite the ban, the activities of HT is continuing.

Recently, a large number of posters of Hijbut Tahrir were pasted on the walls and road sides of the city. The posters depicts the selfie of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the US President Joe Biden. These posters also called upon the people to join an online conference organised by 'Al Wakiah.TV ' channel at 7-00 p.m. on September-30. The posters have not yet been removed from the walls and walkways. Many people are still seen to watch and read these posters with huge interest.

Even, several days ago, some large posters were seen pasted on the walls of an underconstruction building of Dosormondol crossing under Boalia police station. Farhad Ali, a tea stall owner of the area informed, some 10-12 young men pasted those posters at night several days ago.

Local Jubo League activist Saad informed, HT also pasted such posters several months ago in the area. Many obscene, unpleasant remarks were printed about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in those posters. Local Jubo League activists had removed those posters then. But, now these new posters are not even being removed by police. As a result, passerby are reading or watching those posters. The posters contain a call for the fall of the government. Saad alleged that taking the advantage of the inactivity of police, those outlawed organisations are getting an opportunity to re-organise themselves.

According to the authorities of local law enforcement agency, the activities of HT is being noticed mainly among the students and the teachers. By misinterpreting the Islam, they are trying to draw attention of the poor and meritorious students of various higher educational institutions including Rajshahi University and the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and are also trying to convince them to include as the members of the party. Most of the arrested HT leaders and activists in the past were students.

According to sources, on April-16 this year, police arrested Mamun ur Rashid alias Munna, 27, an active member of HT from Baliapukur area of the city. He was identified as the son of Anisur Rahman of Thakurgaon. Based on his information, police arrested another HT member Isahaq alias Ismael from Kajirkhil area of Hajiganj police station of Chandpur district on April-17. Ismael is a 3rd year student of the department of Mathematics of Rajshahi University.

Sultanul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of RU, informed university authorities are always alert so that the students of the varsity are not involved in any anti-state activities. Despite the classes, the extra-curricular activities, sports and the number of clubs and various facilities for students have also been increased to engage themselves in such activities so that they can not get any chance to engage in such anti-state activities.

Additional Police Commissioner (Operations and crime) of RMP Bijoy Basak infomed, he is investigating the incident of pasting the posters. There are also progress in this connection and due to the sake of further investigation, it is not being disclosed now.
