Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that a detailed action plan has been taken for the development of 18 new wards in the city corporation.
The mayor said this while inaugurating the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in Ward No 26 of the capital on Thursday morning.
"We have some remote areas like Jatrabari and Demra. The areas have not yet been developed. These 18 new wards are now part of the city corporation,” said the mayor.
He said that DSCC has designed a big action plan for urbanization of the new wards and he expressed the hope that the corporation would be able to start work soon in this connection.
Regarding the makeshift cattle markets, he said, "Keeping the Covid situation in mind, we have leased out only 13 cattle markets following the hygiene rules.”
The mayor further said that like last year, the markets will have entry on one side and the exit on the other. Mobile courts will be active in the markets to ensure proper hygiene and security.
He further said that they have inaugurated the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in Ward No 26. DSCC is constructing a ward-based STS through which the wastes of each ward will be collected and diverted to the central outfall of Matuail. The idea is to keep the city free of the waste.
Later, the mayor inspected the ongoing development activities in Azimpur and Bangabhaban on the south-west side of the city. He also inspected the proposed site for construction of a social event center in Ward No 25 and the graves of Musa Khan and Dr Muhammad Shahidullah at Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University.
The mayor has inaugurated a total of 9 STS since taking charge. The corporation announced the target of establishing one STS in each of the 75 wards within this year. The work is currently in progress. Before the mayor took charge, the corporation had a total of 21 STS.
DSCC’s Chief Waste Management Officer Badrul Amin, Chief Engineer Rezaur Rahman, supervising engineers Kazi Mohammad Borhan Uddin and Md Khairul Bakr were present at the inauguration, among others.
