As many influential bigwigs have been found involved in extortion, tender manipulation, drugs peddling and casino businesses, the law enforcers are waiting for the return of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the USA for her decision in this regard, sources said.
According to sources, since the massive crackdown was launched against all sorts of crimes and criminals from September 18, different law enforcement and intelligence agencies during their ongoing drives obtained some ‘awakening’ information about the involvement of many big fishes in serious crimes. Disclosure of those identities and their arrest might be considered to be unexpected and embarrassing for the government and the ruling Awami League as well.
Members of different law enforcement agencies, including Rapid Action Battalion RAB) and police, during interrogations to the arrested persons came to know that a large number of influential and important people used to patron them in exchange of huge amount of money.
But the law enforcement agencies have not get any green signal yet from the home ministry to launch drives against those big fishes as prime minister Sheikh Hasina is now staying in New York for attending the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. She is expected to return home on October 1.
Intelligence sources and many high-ups of the government said, they were waiting just for the decision of the PM and they expressed their hopes that drives against those bigwigs will be started immediately after the arrival of Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Road, Transport and Bridges, on Saturday said, “AL will not bear the responsibilities of the crimes of a few number of people.”
“Actions will be taken against those who have paved the ways for the people of BNP and Freedom Party to get themselves infiltrated into AL”, said Obaidul Quader while speaking at a function at Krishibid Institute of Bangladesh at the capital’s Farmgate.
He said, “Fight against corruptions has started and we have to win in the fight.”
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday at a function at a city hotel said, “Everything will be done for the establishment of the good governance”.
Besides, the government also sought cooperation from all including lawmakers, public representatives and noted personalities irrespective of parties and opinions to work in unison to stamp-out irregularities, injustices and corruption from the society for continuation of the development. Earlier, PM Sheikh Hasina has sounded a note of warning of taking stern action against those who would be found involved in committing corruptions and crimes irrespective of their political affiliation.
She said, if anyone of her party is involved in crimes, she would not spare him or her. “I’m currently not sparing any of them and will continue it in the days to come. Punishment should begin from own home which I have already initiated”, said Sheikh Hasina and continued as saying, “None will be spared in case of committing crimes.” The PM also warned that action has even been taken against members from the law enforcement agencies in this regard.
