Accused’s mothers, 3 sisters held over attack on OC, SI

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nabiganj Police Station in Habiganj and a sub-inspector (SI) of the police station were injured allegedly in an attack by a drug peddler on Thursday evening.

The injured OC (investigation) is Uttam Kumar Das and SI Fakhruzzaman.

Police said the two police officers went to arrest the suspected Shah Sohan Ahmed Musa, former vice president of the Nabiganj upazila BCL, on charges of trading drugs.

When the duo raided Musa’s shop in Salamatpur in the evening, he came out carrying a large billhook and hacked the law enforcers.

Uttam was admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while Fakhruzzaman at Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex.

Police is still conducting raid to arrest Musa, said OC Iqbal Hossain. The OC said Musa is a listed criminal and a Yaba trader.

Police, however, detained Musa’s mother Shamsunnahar, 50, and his three sisters-- Mousumi Akhter, 26, Shammi Akhter, 22, and Tonny Akhter, 19.

OC of Nabiganj Police Station Iqbal Hossain confirmed the matter. The OC said that they were detained in the early hours on Friday for interrogation.
