Access Bangladesh Foundation, under Project IGNITE supported by The Khan Foundation, organized a distribution event of educational materials and dignity kits for students with disabilities on Thursday at the Access Conference Hall in Savar, Dhaka.
The initiative is part of an education support project aimed at promoting inclusive education, preventing school dropout, and enhancing learning opportunities for students with disabilities. Through this intervention, Access Bangladesh Foundation seeks to address barriers to education and support the continued participation of children and young people with disabilities in the education system.
A total of 20 selected students with disabilities from Kulla, Sutipara, Sombhag, and Nannar unions of Dhamrai Upazila received educational materials, dignity kits, and educational support. Among the beneficiaries, 10 were primary-level students, 7 were secondary-level students, and 3 were college-level students.
The educational materials distributed included school bags, water bottles, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and color pencils. In addition, students receiving private tutoring support were provided with tuition assistance to help strengthen their academic performance and reduce the risk of dropping out of school.
Recognizing the importance of health, hygiene, and dignity in ensuring educational participation, dignity kits were also distributed, particularly to support adolescent girls and young women with disabilities. Each kit contained a bucket, sanitary pads, soap, detergent powder, coconut oil, shampoo, antiseptic solution, and a pair of sandals. These items are expected to contribute to improved personal hygiene, safe menstrual health management, and increased confidence and regular school attendance among beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, representatives of Access Bangladesh Foundation emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and enabling environment where students with disabilities can continue their education with dignity and equal opportunities. They highlighted that targeted support for education and personal well-being can significantly contribute to reducing educational exclusion and promoting the full participation of persons with disabilities in society.
The event was attended by Mohua Paul, Chairperson of Access Bangladesh Foundation; Albert Mollah, Executive Director, Md. Sohel Rana, Head of Programme; and Taslim Zahan Bithi, Inclusion Lead. Parents and guardians of the students were also present and expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting that such support plays a vital role in ensuring educational continuity and boosting the confidence of students with disabilities.
Through Project IGNITE, Access Bangladesh Foundation remains committed to advancing inclusive education and empowering students with disabilities to achieve their full potential.
