The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday conducted a drive at the Directorate of Sports under the Ministry of Youth and Sports following allegations of irregularities and embezzlement of government funds allocated for the Annual Sports Programme project.
An ACC enforcement team conducted the drive, said Md. Akhtarul Islam, Deputy Director of the ACC’s Public Relations Department at press briefing at the ACC headquarters.
According to the allegations, in the fiscal year 2023–24, each district was allocated Tk 330,000 under the project. Besides, eight divisions received Tk 250,000 each.
The allocated funds were allegedly distributed among officials.
An internal investigation led by former Director (Joint Secretary) of the Directorate of Sports A N M Tariqul Islam, is underway.
