The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Customs Assistant Commissioner Ahsan Habib for acquiring undeclared assets and providing false information in his asset declaration.

Habib joined Customs as an inspector in 1980, was promoted to Assistant Commissioner in 2012, and retired on July 6, 2014. The case was filed by the organization's Assistant Director, Sayed Alam, at the Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 on Tuesday.

Subel Ahmed, Deputy Director of the ACC Chattogram Integrated District Office-1, confirmed the matter.

According to the statement, Habib was ordered to submit an asset declaration on November 12, 2018. He submitted it to the commission on December 10, declaring a total of Tk 9,29,612 in movable assets and Tk 50,000 in immovable assets.

However, ACC verification revealed that he actually owns Tk 1,49,89,396, concealing over Tk 1.4 crore in assets, including savings certificates, bank deposits, and cash. After submitting the declaration, Habib reportedly had a savings certificate of Tk 1 crore, a fixed deposit of Tk 3.3 lakh in Sonali Bank, a Medicare Deposit Scheme of Tk 5 lakh, and a savings certificate of Tk 5 lakh in his daughter's name.

The ACC also found that Habib's legal income was Tk 90,78,985, leaving no legal source for assets exceeding Tk 5.9 lakh.

A case has been registered under sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
