The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of corruption in shopping at Habiganj Sheikh Hasina Medical College. The company has also filed two cases alleging embezzlement of around Tk 3.5 crore.

The plaintiffs in the cases filed on Sunday are Md Sahidur Rahman and Md Ferdous Rahman, deputy assistant directors of the ACC head office. The company's public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter.

The accused in the two cases are Dr Md Abu Sufian, principal of the college, Afsana Islam Kakli, proprietor of Nirjhara Enterprise and SM Nazrul Islam Natun, proprietor of Poonam Trade International.

In one of the cases, it is said that the principal Abu Sufian and the owner of the contractor Kakli have embezzled Tk 1 crore 29 lakh 33 thousand from the government by buying books at a higher price than the actual price.

In another case, it has been mentioned that the owner of Poonam Trade International Natun and principal Sufian, embezzled Tk 2 crore 14 lakh from the government by purchasing equipment at a high price, which is a punishable offense under the Prevention of Corruption Act. A few months ago, there were allegations of irregularities in the purchase of books and goods of Habiganj Sheikh Hasina Medical College.

In the 2017-18 financial year, 15 crore 50 lakh taka was allocated to the organization. In the VAT and income tax sector, one crore 61 lakh 97 thousand 748 taka was deposited in the government treasury.

The rest of the money has been shared among the accused. Such allegations were made to the ACC's 106 hotline. After that, when the news was published in the media, the ACC started an investigation.
