ACC arrests UP chairman, 5 govt officials in Thakurgaon

Members of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested six persons, including a Union Parishad (UP) chairman, on charge of embezzling six tonnes of GR rice through forgery in Thakurgaon on Thursday.

District and Sessions Judge Md Hasanuzzaman on Thursday sent the arrestees to the jail after they were produced before the court. 

The arrestees were identified as Biplob Kumar Singh Roy, food control officer in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, Golam Kibria Mandol, project implementation officer (PIO) in the upazila, Simanto Kumar Barman (Nirmal), chairman of 21 No. Dholarhat Union Parishad,  Maidul Islam, in-charge of Gorerhat Food Warehouse, Shahabuddin Ahmed, in-charge of Sadar Food Warehouse, and SM Golam, in-charge of Shibganj Food Warehouse.

On November 13, members of ACC arrested them in separate drives in Thakurgaon district. 

Deputy Director (DD) of ACC in Dinajpur, Saidur Rahman, said the market price of the rice was Tk2.34 lakh. The arrestees emblazed the money by placing fake project on Mahaliarghat Jame Mosque, Madhabpur Development Youth Club, Madhabpur Forkania Madrasa, Madhabpur Ramkrishna Temple, Barrister Jame Mosque of Thakurgaon district.

Later, the arrestees were produced before a court in Thakurgaon, said the DD.
