The new leadership for the 2026–27 session of the Islamic Economics Research Bureau (IERB) has been elected. The bureau’s 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election were held yesterday, Friday, at its office in the Al-Razi Complex in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.
In the election, distinguished writer and intellectual Abul Asad was elected as Chairman, while prominent researcher and former banker Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman was elected General Secretary. Dr. S.M. Ali Akkas was elected Vice Chairman-1 and Ashek Ahmed Jibal as Vice Chairman-2. Furthermore, Abdul Awal Sarker and M. Safiullah were elected as Assistant General Secretary-1 and Assistant General Secretary-2, respectively.
Abdus Sadek Bhuiyan was appointed as Treasurer, and Dr. M. Mizanur Rahman was elected as Research and Training Secretary. Other elected officials include Muhammad Nurul Huda as Publication Secretary, Md. Habibur Rahman as Publicity Secretary, and Abdul Jabbar as Social Welfare Secretary. Dr. M. Nurul Islam and Dr. Gulzar Nabi were elected as executive members.
The election was conducted by Chief Election Commissioner Abdul Jalil, Chairman of the Islami Bank Foundation, and Election Commissioner Md. Mahfuzur Rahman. Earlier, the General Secretary and Treasurer presented their reports for the previous sessions (2023–24 and 2024–25), followed by an open discussion where members shared their views. The program concluded with a speech by the newly elected Chairman, Abul Asad.
