Abu Sayeed broke discrimination walls by spreading chest before gun

Shaheed Abu Sayeed not only sacrificed his life by spreading chest before gun to free the nation from fascism, but also broke the walls of all kinds of discrimination.

 "In exchange for his life, we today have regained our political, economic, social, cultural and religious freedom," Additional Secretary of the Ministry

of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division) Md Rabiul Islam said today.

He said this while addressing a discussion followed by a cake-cuttingfunction arranged in celebration of the 108th founding anniversary of Carmichael College at its GL Hostel ground as the chief guest.

The chief guest said, embracing the independence achieved at the Abu Sayeed's supreme sacrifice, traditional Carmichael College in the neglected northern suburbs needs to address crises and problems by eliminating disparities.

"We want to fulfill demands of teachers and students and work to keep alive

the past glory of Carmichael College," he said. The speakers discussed various problems and crises being faced by the educational institution, presented important opinions and suggestions for

resolving those in the spirit of the July 2024 uprising.

Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the celebration by hoisting the national flag and releasing balloons and pigeons and participated in the 'Ananda Shobhayatra' in the morning.

Thousands of teachers and students of the institution participated in the

'Shobhayatra' brought out on the colourfully decorated and illuminated college campus.

In the afternoon session, Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police

Aminul Islam attended the discussion, closing function and cultural program as the chief guest.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal addressed the discussion as special guests with Carmichael College Principal Professor Md Mostafizur Rahman in the chair,

Later, artists of different cultural organisations rendered colorful programs featuring songs, dances, recitations and debates and acting enthralling thousands of former and incumbent students and teachers of the institution.

The entire campus of historical Carmichael College, established on November 10, 1916, turned into a place of vivid festivity and a reunion fair of current and former teachers and students of the college.
