Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Snahasish Das inspected river erosion on behalf of the district administration at Shilai Union in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. On Wednesday at 11am, he visited the erosion of the Padma tributary at Shilai village. As, in the last 10 days, about 20 acres and 3 crop lands of the farmers have been lost in the river.

Due to the increase in the water level of the river, erosion has taken place in the Shilai village for the last 10 days. As a result, three crop lands and homesteads of farmers are being lost in the river. As a result of this year's erosion, about a hundred acres of land have been lost to the river. There is frustration among the locals about this.

After inspecting the river erosion, the district administration provided food aid to 25 families in the affected areas. Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hamidur Rahman, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Maruf, Shilai UP Chairman Abul Hashem Liton and UP members were present on the occasion.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Snehashis Das said measures would be taken to prevent rapid river erosion by talking to senior officials of the Water Development Board.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hamidur Rahman said the district administration has inspected the river erosion at Char Shilai in Shilai village. Prompt action will be taken in consultation with the concerned officials to prevent erosion. Besides, food aid has been provided by the district administration to the farmers affected by the river erosion. Shilai UP Chairman Abul Hashem Liton said that with the increase in water in the Padma tributary river, excessive river erosion has occurred in Char Shilai. In the last 10 days, about 20 acres and 3 crop lands of the farmers have been lost in the river. When the Deputy Commissioner was informed about this, they came and inspected. I hope they will take action to prevent river erosion very soon by talking to the senior officials of the Water Development Board.
