Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed on Monday advised students to abide by religious rules and regulations.

He was speaking at a scholarship distribution programme for meritorious students organized by the Bangladesh Police Service Association at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium in the capital.

He said, "You are the future of our nation. You are lucky that you were born in independent Bangladesh."

He said, "Now our students go abroad to study and return to the country after finishing their studies. Because Bangladesh is now a country of immense potential."

He said, "Students need to stay away from militancy. For this reason, you need to know Islam. There are many Islamic books, you have to read them. But not on Facebook or social media posts. Religious texts are available in different languages, including in English."

"Militancy is the enemy of Islam. Muslims have been killed and bloodied by them. They have harmed Islam," he said.

"But we have to consciously learn religious values," the IGP said.

"Our joint families have broken down because of our economic reasons. One of the advantages of joint

families was that the children get a lot of counseling from the family members. It doesn't happen now," he said.

He said, “We have to abide by religious practices, customs and rules.”

He advised students to stay away from drugs. You have to have self-esteem.

The function was presided over by DIG Industrial Police Mahbubur Rahman, who is the co-president of Bangladesh Police Service Association.

He said, “This scholarship or recognition will inspire students in the future.”
